Puttees were common from the Iron Age until the Middle Ages. The military rediscovered them in the modern age, making them part of the standard equipment of many troops during World War I and World War II. No matter if we're talking about Roman legionaries or French soldiers – they all benefited from the protective and warming qualities of this piece of legwear that is as easy to don as it is useful. With its length of about 380cm, they are also suited to be worn knee-high. They are a typical accessory for early medieval outfits, Teutons and Vikings in particular. The puttees may be secured using our small fibula "Hilde", leather straps or hidden safety pins.
